(*2012 advance notice recruitment dates are now available here)
I have been a GP in the same practice now for 25 years. After 25 years you either love your job or hate it. I love it. What other job allows you so much freedom? Such challenges? Such rewards?
I remember in my early days as a GP trainee first and foremost being completely bewildered, fascinated and nervous. How do you treat nappy rash? What do you do when something really serious comes along? More to the point, how do you cope with all those "well it might be’s" without admitting them all to hospital or running unacceptable levels of risk…what is an acceptable level of risk anyway? The key to solving much of this lies in your training and I’m proud that the feedback we receive from trainees on our training programmes is excellent. Our trainers are enthusiastic people, full of bright ideas and with a hugely dedicated attitude towards their work.
"To anyone thinking of applying to GP training in our region, my advice is work out where we are, be prepared to move here and give it a go – I did, and never looked back!"
