Welcome to the Northern Deanery

People from the North East and Cumbria hold their doctors and dentists in high regard but they expect a lot. Unlike our football teams we always deliver! We have the best NHS services in England and, I believe, the best training programmes offering the highest quality training, supervision and support.

Starting a new post is a great challenge both professionally and personally. What sets us aside is the amazing personal support you get from your new colleagues, which includes a well placed sense of humour that can make even the most difficult days tolerable.

I know that the Northern Deanery is an excellent place to live and train. I was born here, trained here, and having ventured afar in training, returned here to consolidate my career in academic medicine, benefiting from the warmth of the local population and the enthusiasm of my trainers.

"Like a bad round of golf, a lumpy sea or missed penalty, medical training can not always be perfect, but meeting the challenge in an area where people really care is a good place to be."
